Abstract: Dynix and TAGSYS, Inc., an independent supplier of item-level RFID hardware, announced an alliance designed to provide a new standard of service and expertise in RFID) technology for libraries. Through the alliance, Dynix has launched Dynix RFID and Self-Check, the most complete system for converting libraries from bar code to RFID-automated systems.

PROVO, Utah - March 31, 2005 - Dynix, the world's leading provider of automation technologies, solutions, and services for libraries, and TAGSYS, Inc., the premier independent supplier of item-level RFID hardware, today announced an alliance designed to provide a new standard of service and expertise in radio frequency identification (RFID) technology for libraries. Through the alliance, Dynix has launched Dynix RFID and Self-Check, the most complete system for converting libraries from bar code to RFID-automated systems.

"We have partnered with Tagsys in order to leverage their dedicated expertise and experience in RFID technology designed specifically for libraries," said Bill Davison, chief operating officer for Dynix. "Their proven technology powers RFID systems for some of the world?s major libraries, including large Dynix customers such as Oak Park Public Library (Oak Park, IL) and Seattle Public Library, both of which process millions of items each year."

Dynix RFID and Self-Check incorporates the most advanced RFID chips, tags, antennas, reader stations, conversion stations, patron self-check stations, and EAS security gates on the market today. For example, the Tagsys FOLIO 320 tag provides remarkable speed and unparalleled reliability for security and inventory management, featuring instant and simultaneous read/write capabilities. The tag also surpasses all ILS standards for tag memory requirements.

Davison said that in conjunction with offering Dynix RFID and Self-Check to existing and future customers, Dynix has also launched comprehensive consulting services for libraries considering the installation of RFID, self-check, and automated materials handling systems. "Our goal is to help libraries around the world embrace these new technologies to improve the service they provide users," he said. "Dynix RFID and Self-Check can not be beat for speed, privacy, security, and reliability, making it easy for libraries to recoup their investment costs in a short period of time."

A differentiating aspect of the technology used in Dynix RFID and Self-Check is that Tagsys chips and tags are manufactured by the company specifically for the library community, allowing Tagsys to work with Dynix in creating a new level of communication between RFID and ILS software. Using enhanced SIP extensions, Dynix RFID and Self-Check increases the breadth of information libraries can communicate using RFID, allowing them to significantly increase the options they can provide end users. For example, Dynix RFID and Self-Check will enable users to renew books at self-check stations, not just check them in or check them out.

"We are pleased to be working with Dynix, the leading supplier of library management systems, in the creation of Dynix RFID and Self-Check," said John Jordan, President of U.S. Operations for Tagsys. "Tagsys technology provides a perfect complement to the Horizon Integrated Library System, offering Dynix customers the most advanced RFID solution available to libraries today."

Through the launch of Dynix RFID and Self-Check, Dynix now offers libraries a "one-call" solution for sales, installation, and support for RFID, self-check, and materials handling technology. More detailed information regarding the features and functionality of Dynix RFID and Self-Check is available from Dynix. Individuals interested in purchase information or a demonstration of the product should contact their Dynix sales consultant or call 1-800-288-8020.
