Brisbane, Australia -- 28 February, 2005: Today IBM Australia and VIP Tone Australia announced the signing of a Teaming Agreement to leverage joint resources in order to develop, market, deploy and support a unique web based, primary and secondary school education management solution for teachers, students, parents and school administrators.
Focused on VIP Tone's School MATRIX Enterprise (SME) product, the Teaming Agreement will offer the local education market an end-to-end integration of applications in a centrally hosted services oriented architecture.
Supported by IBM's Gold Coast Technology Centre, the joint development project will initially be led out of IBM's office in Brisbane with VIP Tone personnel seconded from its Australian head office in Adelaide.
"IBM has chosen VIP Tone as a key solution partner for the local education market," said Stewart Lamond, Education Partner, Business Consulting Services, IBM A/NZ. "The combination of this significant teaming investment with IBM's industry leading products and professional services highlights IBM's serious intent to address the needs of the local education market."
"Honed by teachers, parents, students and education administrators, the IBM and VIP Tone solution is designed to make a significant improvement to the learning experience," said Mr Lamond.
Based on an open Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) architecture, the VIP Tone School MATRIX Enterprise (SME) product will be marketed and supported on IBM's software, including DB2, WebSphere, and Tivoli, in addition to IBM's Linux-based server hardware.
The SME platform includes student information system, school finance, curriculum management, assessment reporting, and many other components that integrate schools' e-learning and e-business processes into a single application. By using IBM's market leading software products, SME can support the large and diverse user constituencies of the education community simultaneously.
Furthermore, IBM is deploying its Tivoli identity management and access technology from its Gold Coast Technology Centre to provide users with the totally secure environment necessary for effective student development.
"We are excited about the opportunity to partner with IBM, the world's largest IT technology and services organisation," said Robert Iskander, VIP Tone founder & CEO. "The joint development project will allow us to offer the local education market and teachers in particular, a set of secure classroom and school management tools that will result in more face-to-face time with children.
"By linking IBM's technology and global education expertise to School MATRIX Enterprise we are creating the first open, integrated and scalable ASP solution for schools, the Departments of Education and the Boards that manage them. IBM Australia is uniquely positioned to offer the resources needed for the upcoming large scale systems deployments to Australian schools," said Mr. Iskander.
