New Providence, N.J. – September 27, 2004 – R.R. Bowker, the leading provider of bibliographic information in North America, today announced the acquisition of Syndetic Solutions, a premier provider of enriched content for a library's online catalog.

Syndetic Solutions is widely recognized as the only company exclusively dedicated to providing data enrichment options for a library's online catalog. Working closely with publishers and ILS vendors, Syndetic Solutions is able to both gather and disseminate data for seamless and effortless integration into a library's OPAC System. Enrichment options include cover images, summaries, fiction profiles, biography profiles, author notes, first chapters, excerpts, tables of contents, and book reviews. Currently thousands of public, academic, school, and special libraries around the country rely on Syndetic Solutions for its unique “added-value” content.

Under the agreement Syndetic Solutions co-founder, Allan Graham, and his team will join Bowker. The company will maintain its offices in Portland, Oregon where operations will continue under Allan's leadership.

“We are very excited to add Syndetic Solutions as part of Bowker's offerings to libraries worldwide,” said Michael Cairns, president of the New Providence, NJ-based R.R. Bowker. “We felt the combination of Syndetic's extensive reach within the market together with our product development resources will result in compelling products for the library community.”

Syndetic Solutions was the first to define the suite of product offerings now referred to as ‘OPAC enrichment services' which allows libraries to present their holdings to patrons in a more informative and interesting way. “The acquisition of Syndetics allows Bowker to accomplish two goals within our strategy: integrate our data within the daily work flow of libraries and improve the patron experience,” added Angela D'Agostino, vice president of business development and marketing.

Allan Graham, co-founder and director of business development for Syndetic Solutions, said: “Syndetics is extremely pleased with the new association with R.R. Bowker, and with the ability it affords to expand and extend the range of our content delivery. This is a great fit for us, and a great opportunity to combine some powerful resources from which our libraries will definitely benefit. It means we'll be able to pour much more effort into new development, significantly increase the amount of available content, and still be able to maintain the level of customer service for which Syndetics is known.”

Syndetic Solutions is the leading supplier of descriptive content designed exclusively for library catalogs. Syndetics' services enable libraries to link to cover images and a variety of data elements relating to more than 1,800,000 books and videos published since 1985.
