Emeryville, CA—Innovative Interfaces, the world's leading provider of Web-powered, Java-based automated library systems, announced today that the San Antonio Public Library has selected Millennium to meet their service and staff needs. Included in this selection were Innovative's MetaFind (metasearching) and Web Access Management (online authentication) products, as well as a Spanish-language, Web-based OPAC.
San Antonio's strategic plan included searching for a new integrated library system. To this end, a group representing the library staff, library board, and the city's information technology services department convened to find a system that would meet the needs of staff and patrons. "Although we all had different backgrounds," says Systems Manager Martha Knott, "everybody recognized how intuitive Millennium is to use."
Library staff were impressed by the flexibility and ease of Millennium's report modes and were convinced that Millennium offered the easiest maintenance and updating of the online public catalog. In addition, Millennium offers Web authentication and federated searching to let patrons sign in more easily and access all the resources the library offers with a single search. San Antonio Public Library will also use Millennium's Featured Lists option to keep patrons up-to-date on titles of general interest.
Along with this new functionality, Millennium delivered on the city's technology infrastructure requirements. "The fact that Innovative's system will run on a Sun server was a plus," says Knott. "We asked Innovative to set up the server, and they did so quickly and efficiently."
