SOUTHBOROUGH, Mass., October 4, 2004 - Geac(R) (TSX:GAC, NASDAQ:GEAC), a global enterprise software company for Business Performance Management, announced today that Harnett County Public Library (HCPL) in Lillington, North Carolina (www.harnett.org/library) has purchased Geac's Vubis Smart library automation system. HCPL becomes the first U.S. customer and the second North American customer for Vubis Smart, Geac's innovative, Web-based library management system, which has gained considerable market acceptance in Europe over the past year.

"We're delighted that Harnett County Public Library has reaffirmed its relationship with Geac by committing to our Vubis Smart solution," said Ellen Isaacson, North American General Manager, Geac Library Solutions. "We see this as a milestone in Geac's rededication to serving the U.S. libraries market, where much of our heritage lies, and where we believe considerable future success will reside, as well."

HCPL selected Vubis Smart to replace its ADVANCE system. Vubis Smart not only supports the library's traditional databases but also facilitates storage of digital images and multi-media for HCPL's local historical collections. These multiple databases of varying formats are searchable through a single search interface, which provides relevant links to other local and remote databases, online subscription databases and associated Internet links based on the search performed by the user.

"HCPL chose Vubis Smart for its rich functionality and flexibility, our long-term relationship with Geac, and the excellent support provided by Geac," said Melanie Collins, Director of the Harnett County Public Library. "We feel that Vubis Smart will provide all of the necessary management and information access tools required by the patrons and staff of HCPL well into the future."

Geac Vubis Smart is an easy-to-use information management system for libraries, archives, museums and business intelligence centers. The Vubis Smart information system consists of advanced Web-based functionality for searching information and objects. Vubis Smart transparently incorporates the latest standards in technology and information, emphasizing ease of use with simplified workflows and comprehensive reporting. Based on the latest Internet technology, users are able to better manage books, CDs, DVDs and videos and provide broad reference capabilities for electronic books and electronic journals in today's virtual library environment.
