PROVO, Utah—September 23, 2004—Dynix, the world's leading provider of automation technologies, solutions, and services for libraries, today announced that Glendale Public Library (Glendale, AZ), a Dynix ILS customer since 1994, will install the Horizon Information Management System.
Glendale Public Library (GPL) sought a new automation system that would deliver state-of-the-art functionality and provide users with enhancements to improve patron self-service and provide increased power and flexibility in searching. Though GPL released an RFP and accepted bids from other vendors, the library decided that Dynix would best meet its technology needs and goals, now and in the future.
"Horizon was the leading system, consistently outscoring the other vendors using the criteria of our RFP," said Technical Services Manager Cherrilynn Moore. "More so than other options, we decided that Horizon would achieve our expectations for meeting staff requirements and for providing premiere service to our users."
Moore said the GPL staff was particularly pleased with the acquisitions, serials, and cataloging modules in Horizon, as well as with the hardware configuration options provided by Dynix. With the installation of Horizon, GPL will also implement Horizon Telephone Messaging, which will help the staff to more efficiently communicate with a growing patron base.
"Dynix has served us very well since 1994, and we are looking forward to the additional benefits and functionality of Horizon," Moore said. "We're extremely excited about the move, and based on the support we've received from Dynix in the past, we are confident that the migration process will be smooth."
"As one of our valued 10-year customers, we are very pleased that Glendale Public Library has made the decision to move to Horizon," said Dynix Chief Operating Officer Bill Davison. "Horizon will provide Glendale's staff and users with the most complete automation system available to libraries today."
GPL serves 112,000 registered users in a community of 230,000 people and maintains an annual circulation of more than 2.5 million from a collection of 600,000 items. The library is expected to go live with Horizon in the spring of 2005 following an extensive upgrade of its hardware systems to achieve compliance with the City of Glendale's information technology standards, including the implementation of a Windows server solution.
