Australia and New Zealand remain hot with Horizon migrations

Abstract: Dynix, announced that Redcliffe City Library in Queensland and Taupo Public Library inNew Zealand will migrate from Dynix ILS to the Horizon Information Management System.


PROVO, Utah—August 24, 2004—Dynix, the world's leading provider of automation technologies, solutions, and services for libraries, today announced that Redcliffe City Library (Redcliffe, Queensland) and Taupo Public Library (Taupo, New Zealand) will migrate from Dynix ILS to the Horizon Information Management System.

A Dynix ILS customer since 1993, Redcliffe City Library sought a new automation product in order to move to a Windows-based system and develop the Web presence necessary to enhance the online services available to its users.

"Following a detailed RFP, we found that Horizon best matched our needs and the list of requirements we assembled," said Coordinator of Collection Services Christine Nairne. "Of the systems we evaluated, Horizon was the easiest to use and provided the greatest value."

By installing Horizon and Horizon Information Portal, the library looks forward to making its catalog available to users online, thus extending its reach in serving an expanding patron base. As well, the library is excited about the reporting functionality of Horizon, as well as the product's acquisitions module. "With Horizon Acquisitions, we will be able to fix errors quickly and efficiently," Nairne said.

In a city of 50,000 people, Redcliffe City Library has nearly 34,000 registered users and maintains an annual circulation of 1.7 million from a collection size of 148,816 items.

Taupo Public Library, a Dynix ILS customer since 1990, is also making the move to Horizon in order to provide its users with a Web-based catalog and online services.

"We like Dynix, the service we have received, and the robustness of the company's software," said Library Manager Joy Mongillo. "By implementing Horizon Information Portal, we will be able to shape the service we provide around patron self-empowerment features, including the ability for users to browse the catalog and manage their library accounts from home."

Taupo Public Library serves a population of 22,000 people and circulates more than 315,000 items annually. The library maintains a collection size of 107,000 items.
