ORLANDO, Fla.—June 28, 2004— Sirsi Corporation, celebrating 25 years of delivering technology "firsts" to the library community, announced today that Bergen County Cooperative Library System (BCCLS), of Hackensack, New Jersey, is continuing the move to Sirsi throughout its four-county service region. BCCLS is also celebrating its 25th anniversary of providing resource sharing for its patrons in walk-in and online environments. BCCLS is now moving its member public libraries, which serve all 62 public libraries in Bergen County and 11 public libraries in Essex, Hudson, and Passaic counties, to Sirsi systems. Last year, the Bergen County School System's Bergen Electronic Library for Schools (BELS) migrated to Sirsi. "With an annual circulation of 9.2 million, 750,000 titles, six million items, and 650,000 patrons, we need a system we know is flexible, scalable, and reliable," said Robert White, BCCLS executive director.

BCCLS' suite of products and services for public libraries includes the Unicorn® Library Management System, Web 2 open public access catalog, WorkFlows® staff interface, ReferenceLibrarian, SmartPort Z39.50 Copy Cataloging Clients, and Sirsi API (application program interface). "We will be very pleased when the public libraries go live on the new system," said White.

About BCCLS

The Bergen County Cooperative Library System (BCCLS) is a consortium of public libraries that delivers quality library service to the general public through sharing of books and other materials, purchasing, maintaining and sharing a computer system and providing common access to electronic resources. BCCLS began 25 years ago to foster resource sharing among Bergen County public libraries, the cornerstone activity has been, and remains, reciprocal borrowing, where a user's hometown library card is honored at all participating libraries. For more about BCCLS, visit www.bccls.org.

About BELS

BELS is offered in cooperation with the Bergen County Cooperative Library System (BCCLS) providing an incredible resource for students and faculty alike. BELS brings resources to individual schools, which rival those available in a large university or large city library. From the school desktop, users may request items from the BELS or BCCLS online public access catalogs, access full text magazine articles and newspaper articles, and research current events and social issues using online reference databases employing an Internet browser to view each database.

Since the first online school library in Bergen County in 1994, the BELS system has grown from 12 districts with 19 school buildings to 26 districts comprised of 46 school buildings. School participation began with high schools and is now available to middle and elementary schools. Each school can access their own, as well as the collection of other participating school libraries, through a web browser interface. The combined resources of the 46 schools now exceed 500,000 items and the schools have access to the BCCLS catalog.
