INWOOD, WV-June 26, 2004— Donald Kaiser has joined The Library Corporation (TLC) as Director of CARL Business Initiatives.

Mr. Kaiser's role at TLC's Denver-based CARL group is to lead a team charged with identifying strategic opportunities for placement of CARL products worldwide.

Mr. Kaiser has been in the library systems industry for many years, working previously for TLC as Director of Sales and Contracts for CARL, and having also held positions at OCLC, Geac, and Fretwell-Downing. Mr. Kaiser has most recently worked as a consultant to libraries on RFID and Disaster Recovery Solutions. He holds a master's degree in Library Science and a bachelor's degree in Computer Science. His background in those fields will bring a unique combination of skills to his new position.

In his new position, Mr. Kaiser will be responsible for ensuring that new and current customers can take advantage of all CARL product options, including CARL.Solution and CARL.X, hardware, wired/wireless network solutions, and workflow and disaster recovery consulting services. He will work with all TLC departments, including Marketing, Sales, Strategic Partnerships, Product Management, and Development to influence product directions, and will manage the contracting process for all sales.

Patricia Culkin, Vice President of TLC's Denver-based CARL group, and previous owner-developer of the original CARL.Solution product line, said of Mr. Kaiser: “Don brings a deep knowledge of the CARL.Solution product lines, the marketplace, our competition, and potential customers. He has experience from both sides of the table in regard to libraries, contracts, and the procurement process, and proven ability to execute complex sales. We're glad to have him back on board to help us keep TLC's CARL systems in the forefront of contemporary ILS offerings.”

Mr. Kaiser commented: “CARL is already well known for serving the largest, most demanding libraries in the world. Our new strategy is to allow a larger group of libraries, both domestically and internationally, to enjoy the power and sophistication that CARL.Solution and CARL.X can deliver. I think of TLC as building solutions for tech-savvy trendsetter libraries whose vision helps shape what the technology must do.”

"We are pleased to welcome Don back to TLC," commented TLC CEO Annette Harwood Murphy. "Twenty five years of experience in the library information field provide Don with extensive understanding of the technology issues facing libraries. Don will have a key role in positioning CARL products into libraries as lifetime solutions.”
