Abstract: Dynix announced that Nayack High School Library System (Nayack, NY), San Mateo-Foster City School District (San Mateo, CA), and Elkhorn School District (Elkhorn, NB) have all chosen to migrate from Dynix Scholar to the Horizon Information Management System.

PROVO, Utah—June 2, 2004—Dynix, the world's leading provider of automation technologies, solutions, and services for libraries, today announced that Nayack High School Library System (Nayack, NY), San Mateo-Foster City School District (San Mateo, CA), and Elkhorn School District (Elkhorn, NB) have all chosen to migrate from Dynix Scholar to the Horizon Information Management System.

The Nayack High School Library System, a Dynix Scholar customer since 1994, consists of three elementary schools, a high school, and one middle school, and serves 2,500 students with a collection of 60,000 items.

“It was time for us to pursue the newest and latest state-of-the-art automation system,” said Library Director Deidre O'Hagan. “We have never regretted the decision we made when we moved to Dynix Scholar. Now, with Horizon, we'll have all the best features and functionality of the text-based system plus the ease of use and customization of a GUI interface.”

San Mateo-Foster City School District needed to upgrade a server and submitted bids to three other companies in its process of selecting a new automation vendor. “We stayed with Dynix because we trust them and have had years of incredible support, good training, and very few problems,” said Director Mary Holst. “We had a broad base of people from the community and within the district on our selection committee and we are very happy with our decision to move to Horizon.” The district serves 10,000 students in 20 schools and has been a Dynix Scholar customer since 1992.

Elkhorn School District, which serves 3,000 students and has been a Dynix customer since 1994, sought a library automation product that was more aligned with the advanced technology available to libraries in the 21st century. Specifically, the rapidly expanding district wanted a system that would seamlessly support growth and expansion. “We're adding new buildings each year, so we needed a state-of-the-art system that will make it easy to add libraries as the districts grows,” said Library Media Specialist Sharon Anderson.

“We looked at other systems, but when it came down to it, others couldn't do a union catalog, or it was so new for them that we couldn't trust it,” Anderson said. “We also like Horizon Kid's Information Portal, which will help our younger students to explore the library in a visual way. Horizon will increase the usage at our library and make is possible to take the library into each classroom, which we have not been able to do before.”

“We are very pleased to be working with Nyack High School, San Mateo-Foster City School District, and Elkhorn School District in the implementation of Horizon, which will help each of these customers provide a higher level of technology that even their younger students have come to expect,” said Brad Whittle, Dynix Vice President for the Americas. “We appreciate the trust these customers have placed in us over the past decade and look forward to many more years of continued service.”

All districts will install their Horizon systems before the new school year begins in September 2004.
