Abstract: Dynix announced that Central Kitsap School District in Silverdale, WA has selected the Horizon Information Management System.

PROVO, Utah -- June 1, 2004 -- Dynix, the world's leading provider of automation technologies, solutions, and services for libraries, today announced that Central Kitsap School District (Silverdale, WA) has selected the Horizon Information Management System.

Central Kitsap School District has been running a CASPR system for the past eight years, but system administrators found they were using an increasing amount of resources to maintain the older technology. As well, the system didn't provide certain necessary services to students and teachers, such as authority control and a union catalog.

The district evaluated three vendors and talked with other districts about the systems they were using. "We selected Dynix based upon the recommendation of other districts," said Janet Harris, Director of Information Services, "and also because it is customizable and offered all the functionality we need. Its flexibility allows us to easily customize it for our individual schools."

Another important factor in the district's decision was Horizon Kid's Information Portal. "I just love it, and it will be an added bonus for our younger students," said Amber Bryant, Technical Services Librarian.

"I'm really looking forward to working with Horizon. Because cataloging and circulation will be so much easier and efficient with Horizon, we will no longer have to do many of the tasks that we do with our old system," Bryant said. "Moving to Horizon will allow me to do my job more efficiently. We will get books out to our libraries more quickly while enabling our staff librarians to spend more time helping students than running the automation system."

"Dynix is pleased to welcome the Central Kitsap School District as a new customer," said Matt Shill, Director of Western U.S. Sales for Dynix. "We are especially excited about the district's implementation of Horizon Kid's Information Portal, which provides all the same industry-leading functionality as its parent product while tailoring it to match the interests of younger users."

The Central Kitsap School District serves 13,000 students in 20 K-12 schools with a collection size of approximately 260,000.
