HUNTSVILLE, Ala.—May 11, 2004—Sirsi Corporation, celebrating 25 years of delivering technology “firsts” to the library community, announced today that VTLS Inc.'s FASTRAC Patron Self-Check Station, version 1.0, is Sirsi SIP2-Certified for use with the Unicorn® Library Management System. FASTRAC is a second-generation asset management system based upon radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, which enables libraries to multiple-item process for checkout, check-in, renewal functions, as well as patron self-check out. At the same time, FASTRAC provides for rapid, uninterrupted security for all library materials. Collection management is faster and more accurate and library staff members spend less time with repetitive, clerical tasks. FASTRAC can scan the collection of a typical library in less than a day and supports both batch and real-time inventory control.
“With FASTRAC, processing materials has never been faster with rapid inventories, multi-item self-check circulation, wireless weeding, and book returns that do the work for you,” said VTLS's VTRAX division manager Murray Crowder. “Whether it's inventorying entire collections in hours, or finding misshelved books in minutes, FASTRAC RFID handles it in real-time – just imagine – an up-to-the-minute look-up of your entire collection.”
Continued Crowder, “With FASTRAC's flexible design and expandable architecture, libraries can tailor a solution to fit their present needs and expand the system as their library grows. Built upon a decentralized, peer-to-peer architecture, FASTRAC is the fastest and most efficient implementation of RFID on the market today.”
The VTRAX division of VTLS (www.vtls.com) focuses on RFID type technologies in partnership with Tagsys. Our newest FASTRAC Self-Check station has been designed from the ground up to allow patrons to checkout multiple items simultaneously and accurately without assistance from the library staff. VTLS is also ISO 9001:2000 certified.
