PROVO, Utah - April 27, 2004 - Dynix, the world's leading provider of automation technologies, solutions, and services for libraries, announced today that Saskatchewan Provincial Library, a Dynix ILS customer since 1990, will upgrade to the company's next generation offering, Horizon 7.3.
The Saskatchewan Provincial Library (SPL) is entrusted, through the Saskatchewan Public Libraries Act, 1996, to coordinate the province-wide public library system. In addition to its role of developing province-wide library policies, the library is responsible for maintaining an electronic library information network, coordinating resource-sharing activities, and providing cost-effective centralized services.
To that end, SPL requires an information management system that is robust enough to service a community of one million people, as well as maintain its extensive interlibrary loan program, also powered by Dynix software. Horizon's flexible back-end technology makes it ideally suited to meet SPL's needs.
"For our patrons, the upgrade to Horizon will be relatively transparent, as we have already offered a Web-based information portal with our old Dynix system," said Marie Sakon, Manager of Library Network Development at SPL. "The biggest differences will be for our staffs. With Horizon's SQL compliance, we will be able to produce detailed customized reports that will help us better manage our extensive collections."
Saskatchewan Provincial Library, based in Regina, Sask., hosts two library systems: Chinook Regional Library, headquartered in Swift Current, and Pahkisimon Nuye?áh Library System, including La Ronge Public Library in La Ronge, Sask. Collectively, the library catalogue database is comprised of approximately 1,000,000 titles and 1.7 million holdings. The libraries circulate more than 305,000 items annually.
