DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS, USA – April 14, 2004: Endeavor Information Systems this week honors the ten recipients of Bon Voyáge awards, monetary grants donated as part of Endeavor's support of continuing education for librarians. Each Bon Voyáge award makes it financially possible for an individual or a group of individuals from Endeavor customer libraries to attend the Endeavor User Group Annual Meeting, held this week in Chicago, IL.

To assist librarians from small libraries or libraries currently without travel budgets, Endeavor sponsors 10 Bon Voyáge grants of $1,000 each to be used for travel and accommodations at the three-day conference.

Grant winners are selected by a volunteer committee of Endeavor customers. Winners are selected based on content and creativity of their application, the need for funding and the librarian's role with Endeavor's products.

Because of the Bon Voyáge grants, first made available in 2001 and awarded annually since, library staff from colleges and universities in 12 U.S. states, three Canadian provinces, four European countries and Australia have been able to attend the recent Endeavor User Group Meetings. The financial assistance encourages a wide range of attendees at the Endeavor Annual User Group Meeting and assures librarians and technical staff from diverse libraries are able to participate in the valuable learning and networking opportunities of the Endeavor Annual User Group Meeting.

The 2004 winners represent all levels of the library, from directors to technical services staff, public services librarians to systems librarians, and several librarians who cover multiple departments in their libraries. This year's Bon Voyáge grant winners represent distinct institutions, including:

  • Bellingham Technical College, Bellingham, WA
  • Christian Brothers University, Memphis, TN
  • Connecticut College, New London, CT
  • Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Alexandria, LA
  • North Carolina State Archives, Raleigh, NC
  • Seton Hill University, Greensburg, PA
  • University of Hertfordshire, Hatsfield, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom
  • University of Massachusetts Medical School, Worcester, MA
  • University of Wales-Aberystwyth, Aberystwyth, Wales, United Kingdom
  • Westfield State College, Westfield, MA

“Endeavor recognizes the recent economy has created stretched budgets for so many libraries. We know librarians will benefit from the learning opportunities at the Endeavor User Group Meeting and offer the grants to cover their travel and accommodations needed to participate in our imperative event,” said Donald J. Muccino, Endeavor Chief Operating Officer. “The Endeavor User Group Annual Meeting is an exceptional value for libraries. For a small registration fee, Endeavor provides breakfast, lunch, snacks, and a lively networking party, in addition to the operational support – meeting rooms, audio and visual equipment, plus internet and electrical connections. Endeavor supports the Meeting so that our customers and Endeavor staff can successfully network, instruct, learn and brainstorm with three full days of programming.”

"On behalf of the Users Group Board and all Endeavor customers, our genuine thanks go to Roland Dietz and Endeavor for continuing to make these grants as a contribution to the support of individuals and institutions who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend an EndUser Annual Meeting. The annual conference is a meeting and learning place like no other, and the presence and participation of the award-winners enriches us all," said Debbie Morrow, President of the EndUser Board and Automation Librarian for Grand Valley State University, Allendale, MI.
