PROVO, Utah – March 23, 2004 – Dynix, the world's leading provider of automation technologies, solutions, and services for libraries, announced today an alliance with EnvisionWare, a world leader of time and print management solutions for libraries and schools. Through the partnership, Dynix will launch EnvisionWare's PC Reservation and LPT:One, two products designed to improve staff efficiency, enhance service to library users, and reduce wasted library resources in libraries of all types and sizes.

“EnvisionWare PC Reservation and LPT:One are valuable additions to our product line of time and money saving solutions for libraries,” said Dynix Founder Jim Wilson. “We are pleased to be working with EnvisionWare to bring Dynix customers new products that will deliver cost-savings, time efficiency, customizability, and ease of use. Libraries will provide their users with better service because of these two products.”

“We are excited about our newly formed alliance with Dynix and for the opportunity to extend our collaborative technologies to a global community of more than 11,000 Dynix libraries,” said Michael J. Monk, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for EnvisionWare. “PC Reservation and LPT:One will save Dynix customers time and money, allowing them to do more with less in an environment of budget cuts and belt tightening.”

EnvisionWare PC Reservation automates the process of monitoring and policing public access computers, eliminating the need for library staff to manage users' access to PC resources. Instead of logging users into workstations and constantly monitoring session length, staff members are free to spend their time in more meaningful patron service. Additionally, PC Reservation provides reliable, scaleable, and powerful management of patron PCs without requiring the use of an additional server.

System administrators can customize PC Reservation to meet the needs of their respective libraries, making it an ideal solution for consortial environments. The product uses Standard Interchange Protocol (SIP) to validate users against Horizon and Dynix ILS patron databases upon login. Libraries can configure criteria such as total reservations, session length, wait time, and cancelled status, including the ability to prevent users with overdue fines from using workstations. In addition, system managers can label each public access PC with a computer name and the library's logo.

Used in conjunction with PC Reservation or as a stand-alone product, EnvisionWare LPT:One is the most versatile and highest-performing modular approach to print cost recovery available to libraries. It scales to fit the needs of all library types and is designed for use in both staff-managed and self-service environments.

LPT:One controls workstation printing by requiring users to approve page counts, print costs, and a printer selection before print jobs are fulfilled. This approval process reduces wasted paper by up to 50 percent in libraries using the system.

Like PC Reservation, LPT:One is a completely customizable solution, offering system administrators the ability to set unique prices for different types of documents. For example, pages printed from the library catalog might be free, while pages printed from a Web-based information service might have a charge based on subscription cost. System administrators can assign charges to a wide variety of default document types.

Both PC Reservation and LPT:One will be available from Dynix for purchase and implementation in April of 2004.
