WOBURN, MA - Inmagic, Inc., a global provider of content and information management solutions, has recently introduced a new automated tool to address the growing information explosion. Inmagic® Profiler is a current awareness and alerting tool that automates the process of distributing relevant information to the right people.
As the recently released report from the University of California, Berkeley, “How Much Information? 2003”¹ makes clear, new information – whether print or electronic - continues to mushroom, making it more and more difficult for today's business user to keep up with important new content. “Inmagic Profiler addresses this productivity issue by reducing the time workers spend wading through Web sites and local databases to locate relevant information”, says Phil Green, CEO and President of Inmagic, Inc. “While many Inmagic customers have created corporate intranets and research portals that offer access to timely information resources, business users may not make a habit of visiting these sites. Inmagic Profiler uses push technology to send information directly to the knowledge worker, allowing individual users who may not be skilled at effective searching to gain access to timely information critical to decision making.”
The Profiler, developed by an Inmagic partner, Trimagic Software, Sydney, Australia, allows individual users to register a profile that specifies their information requirements and topics of interest. When new materials come into the organization's Inmagic databases, Profiler sends an e-mail alert directly to the user, providing access to the latest relevant information.
Profiler is a logical complement to Inmagic's other information and content management software, which is used by organizations throughout the world to organize and publish both internal and external content to corporate intranets, extranets and the Web.
Inmagic Profiler is available in two versions:
- Inmagic Profiler Standard runs in the Windows environment and allows an information professional or other content manager to set up profiles for individual users, specifying an e-mail address for delivery of the alerts.
- Inmagic Profiler Enterprise is Web-enabled and, in addition to the capabilities offered in the Windows environment, allows end users to create and edit their own profiles and to retrieve their alerts via a browser interface at the click of a button, typically from the organization's intranet.
Henry Davis York (HDY), a Sydney law firm and Trimagic client, has been using Profiler to deliver notifications to over 350 of the firm's lawyers. Catherine Bollen, Library Manager at HDY, provides a journal table of contents alerting service to the law firm's lawyers. A profile has been created for each lawyer, specifying the journals of interest. Each day, Profiler searches the database for new issues that have arrived and automatically constructs an e-mail that is sent to the lawyers, who can then link directly from the e-mail to the tables of contents of any journals of interest. According to Bollen, “The lawyers and library staff all think our new current awareness system is fabulous….. The lawyers … appreciate the efficiency of getting one list that tells them everything.”
