PROVO, Utah, and SYDNEY, Australia - January 6, 2004 - Dynix, the world's leading provider of automation technologies, solutions, and services for libraries, announced today a strategic partnership with Altarama Systems and Services (Sydney, Australia) that will make Altarama's market-leading reference management system RefTracker available to Dynix ILS and Horizon customers.
With the addition of RefTracker to the company's mix of Horizon Information Portal, Horizon Consolidated Searching, Horizon Remote Patron Authentication, and an existing integration with Tutor.com's Virtual Reference ToolKit, Dynix clearly leads the marketplace in providing advanced functionality to reference librarians.
Through this partnership, Dynix will now offer an online reference solution to libraries by adding a direct link to RefTracker through Horizon Information Portal, giving librarians the ability to ask and answer questions in a more timely manner. Dynix and Altarama will also work together for future development initiatives.
"This is a natural partnership for RefTracker, with Dynix customers such as the City of Sydney Library already using the product," said Shirley Forster, founder and Managing Director of Altarama. "We are delighted that Dynix customers will have the opportunity to easily purchase and integrate RefTracker as part of their upgrades and new systems."
With RefTracker, Dynix libraries will be able to manage all of the requests coming into their library, automatically routing them to the most appropriate staff member to ensure they are addressed quickly. Workflows in RefTracker are flexible, designed to improve efficiency without hampering the individual work styles of reference librarians. RefTracker prevents questions from being answered twice and ensures previous search strategies and developed answers can be shared through the use of a knowledge database that can be searched directly by clients for instant answers.
Most importantly, RefTracker collects comprehensive statistics that support the management and justification of reference functions and resources. The product also provides a comprehensive Ask-a-Librarian interface that allows expansion of a library's reference service beyond its walls, providing service to remote users and branches that do not have on-site reference personnel.
RefTracker enhances co-operation between staff in the reference operations of academic, public, special, state, and national libraries. A scaled pricing structure makes RefTracker affordable for the smallest of libraries, but the product's functionality is sophisticated enough to meet the needs of the largest consortium.
"Reference modules are becoming a standard part of what libraries look for when purchasing a new library management system, and Dynix now leads the way in providing them," said Dynix President and CEO Jack Blount. "RefTracker perfectly complements our library management systems. It adds to the unrivalled flexibility and functionality of Horizon Information Portal, enhancing its place as the leading library information portal available to library staff and users today."
