November 20, 2003—Boston—Five universities in Mississippi have joined forces to provide their staff members and students with SFX, the original OpenURL-compliant linking server from Ex Libris. After reviewing a number of similar applications, Mississippi State University, Mississippi University for Women, the University of Southern Mississippi, Mississippi Valley State University, and Delta State University have opted for SFX to create an advanced research environment.
Working together, these libraries have combined their technical expertise and financial resources to purchase a product that is used by hundreds of institutions in the United States and worldwide, including Carnegie Mellon University, Colorado State University, Florida State University, Georgia State University, the State University of New York (SUNY), and the 23 campuses of the California State University.
University of Southern Mississippi Librarian Kay Wall said she was delighted with the cooperative agreement and added, "These efforts maximize our resources and make the task of finding electronic publications easier for our faculty and students."
Terry Latour, Director of Library Services at Delta State, commented, "Taking advantage of SFX OpenURL linking is another excellent example of how Mississippi university libraries are cooperating to reduce costs and improve services."
"We are extremely pleased that Mississippi universities have selected SFX and are adopting our Ex Libris-hosted ASP service," said Jenny Walker, Vice-President of Marketing and Business Development of the Ex Libris Information Services Division. "Ex Libris is committed to providing the best solution to our customers, the solution that is most suitable to their environment and practices."
