September 16, 2003 – Chicago – Ex Libris (USA) is pleased to announce the promotion of Luis Fernandez Lacayo to the position of Ex Libris (USA) Manager of Technical Integration. In his new position Mr. Lacayo will report directly to Katrina Anderson, Vice President of Operations for Ex Libris (USA).
Mr. Lacayo was the very first Ex Libris (USA) employee when he started working for Ex Libris in November 1997. He has been involved in installations and support from the beginning of his association with Ex Libris and was responsible for the initial ALEPH500 software installation at the University of Notre Dame--the ground-breaking site that marked ALEPH's entry into the large-scale segment of the North American library marketplace.
In his new role, Mr. Lacayo officially takes over responsibility for many assignments where he previously offered advice and assistance. He will be responsible for pre-sales technical support, including discussions and determinations of approved customer system configurations. He will oversee hardware and software installation, customer systems administration training, technical support for all types of Ex Libris managed services packages (ASP, OSP [Oracle DBA Services Package], and LSP [Local Server Package on OS and Table Management]), plus the networking and computing infrastructure for the Ex Libris Chicago and Boston offices.
“We are very excited that Luis has agreed to accept this position and these responsibilities,” observed Ms. Anderson. “Luis is very well known to our customers from his many years in the profession and has earned a sterling reputation for his willingness to work cooperatively and constructively with them. He consistently earns superb reviews for his systems administration classes and has a natural talent as a teacher and trainer. He is a valued member of our Ex Libris team and a truly dedicated member of the library profession.”
“I am looking forward to continuing and expanding my contacts with all of our Ex Libris customers—both present and future,” added Mr. Lacayo. “Working with them as they implement their ALEPH systems and so advance to the next level of library automation is a very gratifying experience.
”Mr. Lacayo started his career in library automation in 1988 as a systems engineer in the customer support department of NOTIS, where he oversaw all access products and services, including OCLC and RLIN. In 1992 he moved briefly to Loyola University of Chicago, where he served as Loyola's NOTIS system administrator. Returning to NOTIS in 1993, he assumed responsibility for support of all access products, which by then included such services as SilverPlatter/InfoShare, Unix GTO (OCLC-to-NOTIS transfer), and WEBPAC. He has been with Ex Libris since 1997.
