Blacksburg, VA – The new Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) at Virginia Tech has contracted with VTLS to provide a comprehensive solution that includes Virtua ILS, FASTRAC - the company's RFID solution, as well as digitization services. VTLS will also provide management and administrative services to enable both a rapid implementation and ongoing support.

“VTLS has extensive experience in providing visionary technologies to the library community,” said Dixie Tooke-Rawlins, Dean of VCOM. “VCOM is Virginia Tech's newest collaborative partner. We needed products and services that enable the college to meet our goals of aggressive growth strategy that includes becoming a premier academic institution focused upon providing superior education enrichment in the arena of osteopathic medicine.”

VCOM required a scalable solution with the flexibility of meeting not only the present requirements of the library and academic community, but also providing the infrastructure for future collaboration and development of virtual libraries between the college and sister institutions.

“VTLS has three divisions which specialize and focus on delivering visionary solutions that exceed library expectations,” said Carl Grant, President of VTLS Inc. “In the course of discussions with Dean Rawlins, it became evident that the college would be able to take advantage of all three areas of expertise including our Virtua ILS, the FASTRAC RFID solution and finally our digitization services.”

The college has 2,000 enrolled students, and has contracted for a 128-user license and will be taking advantage of VTLS' ASP hosting services. VCOM will secure and track their valuable resources through VTLS' RFID solution, FASTRAC, and will be implementing a patron self-check station and security gates within the library.
