Minneapolis, MN—August 11, 2003—Sagebrush Corporation, a leading provider of technologies and information resources for K-12 districts and schools, today announced an exclusive agreement with Gemteq Software to distribute its eGems Enterprise software to libraries in the K-12 education market and public libraries. Sagebrush has integrated the eGems technology into its integrated research tool for students, Pinpoint, which was launched in June 2003.
“By integrating Gemteq's eGems Enterprise Server into Pinpoint, we are able to help K-12 students and educators better access and use the best resources for learning,” said Jim Zicarelli, Sagebrush CEO. “As outlined in information use processes such as the Big6 and Information Power, it is important not only to help students get the most out of the search process, but to help them begin to organize and use research information more effectively.”
Pinpoint provides an easy-to-use online research tool that facilitates effective and efficient research. Students start by selecting the type of information they are seeking based on the nature of their assignment. They then can search libraries, information databases, online subscriptions, and the World Wide Web simultaneously. During searches, Pinpoint helps students hone their results list and eliminate clutter by letting them focus in on a more limited set of results that are closely related to their desired topic. Using the eGems features that are integrated into Pinpoint, students can then capture content from electronic resources, create citations and store these pieces of content for later use at home or anywhere else they can access the Internet.
eGems Enterprise is a powerful online research solution enabling writers, students, educators, and business users to conduct and organize electronic research. Users capture research content from electronic sources and organize it into personal digital libraries, permitting the creation of online workgroups and collaboration for electronic research.
“We are delighted to form this alliance with Sagebrush Corporation and the opportunity to advance our business objective of providing the eGems solutions for the K-12 marketplace" noted Robert Guillaumot, CEO of Gemteq Software. “We believe that the academic community will greatly benefit from the combined Pinpoint and eGems Solution to better manage the research process.”
The combination of Pinpoint and eGems provides a unique solution for K-12 students searching, collecting and using information from valuable online databases such as EBSCO Publishing, Gale, Grolier Online®, NewsBank, and others, and Web resources such as Discovery Channel, Fact Monster and National Geographic.
