BERLIN, Germany – August 4, 2003 – Dynix, the world's leading provider of automation technologies, solutions, and services for libraries, announced today at the IFLA show a strategic partnership with Switzerland-based Bibliotheca RFID Library Systems, a premiere designer and supplier of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for libraries. Through the partnership, Dynix will work together with Bibliotheca to enable complete compatibility between its Horizon Information Management System with Bibliotheca's RFID technology and offer Dynix customers a leading RFID solution.
“We see this partnership with Dynix as a valuable opportunity to build a strong presence in North American libraries, just as we have done in Europe,” said Emmett Erwin, President-Americas of Bibliotheca. “By partnering with Dynix, we will further grow our offering and expand the service we provide to libraries around the world.”
“Our partnership with Bibliotheca provides Horizon libraries with an attractive, cost-efficient solution in RFID systems,” said Dynix President and CEO Jack Blount. “Bibliotheca has demonstrated their ability to help libraries further automate staff workflows that would otherwise reduce the amount of time available to directly serve library users. As always, our goal with this partnership is to help our customers better serve their users.”
The companies will work together in cultivating joint customer opportunities while providing leadership in the development and adoption of RFID technology within the library community. “We see RFID as a clear vision for libraries in the future,” Blount said. “By partnering with Bibliotheca, we are working hard to make the technology accessible and affordable to current and future Dynix customers.”
RFID is a technology that incorporates the use of radio waves to uniquely identify an object, animal, or person. RFID is seeing increased use in industry and in the library community as an alternative to bar codes and electro-magnetic security strips. The advantage of RFID is that it does not require direct contact or line-of-sight scanning; several objects can be identified at the same time and information uploaded on each object.
