Abstract: Sirsi Corporation announced that the Charleston County Public Library has selected the Unicorn Library Management System, Hyperion Digital Media Archive, iBistro with DataStream enriched content, and Sirsi Rooms Context Management Solutions.

Toronto — June 23, 2003 — Sirsi Corporation, the leader in new-name sales of technology for libraries around the world*, announced today that the Charleston County (South Carolina) Public Library (CCPL) has selected the Unicorn® Library Management System, Hyperion Digital Media Archive, iBistro with DataStream enriched content, and Sirsi Rooms Context Management Solutions. "The keys to a great public library are services and collections; today collections must include vast digital archives, a myriad of databases, the Web, and virtually every kind of electronic information available," said Jan Buvinger, director of CCPL. "Libraries must continue their role as purveyors of knowledge and information. To do that effectively ― with style, substance, relevance, and end-user ease ― requires an evolutionary concept like Sirsi Rooms." Sirsi made this announcement at the ALA/CLA annual conference in Toronto on Saturday, June 21, 2003.

Sirsi Rooms, U.S. patent pending, allows librarians to create and present focused, dynamic collections of the best information available on any subject, from any source. "In addition to developing and providing subject-specific Rooms that will allow our users to reap the benefits of a professional collection, we are also excited to provide iBistro with the Sirsi DataStream," said Buvinger. "It's an easy-to-use intuitive interface that will include enriched content like cover art, reviews, tables-of-contents, and best titles."The library intends to support its strategic goal mission of providing 24/7 access to information, resources, and knowledge through Sirsi technology.

Along with iBistro and Sirsi Rooms, Sirsi's Hyperion Digital Media will enable the library to preserve and share Charleston's rich history; it will be used to create a digital archive of unique historical resources and collections. "A few examples of collections that draw local and worldwide interest are the City Archives of Antebellum Charleston, which date back to 1790, and the Complete Transcripts of Charleston Wills, which date from 1671 to 1898," said Tom Walker, CCPL's systems manager.

"We chose Sirsi because we appreciate the practical, easy-to-use features of the staff interface, WorkFlows, coupled with Sirsi's advanced and intuitive technology for our end-users," said Walker. "We were also influenced by the impressive list of important libraries that are already Sirsi customers."

"Sirsi is delighted to support the Charleston County Public Library's mission to provide people with the knowledge and information they need," said Andrew Morrice, Sirsi's vice president of sales & marketing and international operations. "Our goal is to free libraries to focus on what they want to focus on: the user experience."
