Toronto — June 23, 2003 — Sirsi Corporation, the leader in new-name sales of technology for libraries around the world*, announced today that the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System (AFPL) in Atlanta, Georgia, has signed an agreement to implement Sirsi's Unicorn® Library Management System, iBistro Electronic Library, and Hyperion Digital Media Archive. The new systems will be installed in the spring of next year to replace the library's TLC Carl system. Sirsi made this announcement at the ALA/CLA annual conference in Toronto on Saturday, June 21, 2003.

According to AFPL's library director, Mary Kaye Hooker, the Sirsi system was chosen because it met the specific needs of the library for a system that would accommodate the library's branch acquisition procedures, as well as support the library's extensive life-long learning and Internet access programs. "We share a common vision with Sirsi," said Hooker. "We both care foremost about serving the library's users and making it easy for them to access information wherever it resides and to continue their education through the most appealing and effective means possible."

The library will implement all of the Sirsi system's modules, including the iBistro Electronic Library with the Sirsi DataStream, which provides enabling AFPL users with access to a wide variety of content about titles in the library's collection. This enriched content includes book reviews, tables of content, summaries, cover images, and author biographies. The library will also use Sirsi's Hyperion Digital Media Archive system to store and provide easy access to the library's digital collections, including African-American historical documents at its well-known Auburn Avenue Research Library.

"We appreciate the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System's confidence in Sirsi and the Sirsi system," said Sirsi's CEO Patrick C. Sommers. "There is certainly no doubt about Sirsi's expertise in serving the technological needs of large urban public libraries, but is very gratifying to find that so many of these library leaders share our vision and are partnering with us to expand and extend services to their users in such new and creative ways."
