Abstract: Endeavor Information Systems announced a new application, the Course Content Integrator, to complement the ENCompass digital library system for managing, searching and linking collections.

DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS, June 20, 2003: Endeavor Information Systems today announced a new application, the Course Content Integrator, to complement the ENCompass digital library system for managing, searching and linking collections. Demonstrated at the American Library Association/Canadian Library Association Joint Conference in Toronto this weekend, Endeavor's Course Content Integrator, available soon, is a first for all digital library products in the library market today.

Endeavor's Course Content Integrator is available for use with the Blackboard™ Learning System 6.0 Enterprise Edition and the WebCT™ Vista System. The Course Content Integrator is designed with persistent methods of searching, so instructors can insert links with confidence. ENCompass will ensure content is available for long lengths of time, reducing the probability of broken links.

With this product, Endeavor enables course creators to easily integrate the libraries' quality resource into their institution's chosen course management system where today's instructors and students interact daily. Libraries benefit with increased use of their investment in electronic database content and with increased recognition for the role the library plays in the daily education of the student. Institutions benefit with a way to further leverage their investment in course management systems.

"Instructors need a high level of flexibility when combining appropriate levels of content to match their students' needs. Some courses will require direct links to articles, while others may need to provide dynamic searches to current topics. The URL created for the course management system is common and stable; ENCompass, as part of its base functionality, translates this URL into the specific protocol or syntax the target system needs to process the search," explained Sara Randall, Endeavor Manager of Digital Library Product Management. "Librarians should be sure that the solution they choose employs intelligent searching, not just linking, to access their e-content via the institution's course management system."

"Librarians tell us they are anxious to work with their institution's course management system because of the valuable assets libraries can offer students and the value of the librarians in supplying this information. Endeavor anticipated this need early on and worked with libraries to develop appropriate solutions," said Marianne Parkhill, Endeavor Vice-President of Marketing. "The benefit of Endeavor building ENCompass as an open system is that we can provide this functionality seamlessly. Intelligent software like the Course Content Integrator can then 'talk' to vital systems such as the Blackboard and WebCT enterprise-level course management systems."
