Sunnyvale, CA/Tel Aviv, Israel, June 18, 2003--Ex Libris, a worldwide market leader in the field of library automation and library software solutions, and Net Snippets, a leading provider of personal and collaborative research information management solutions, announced today a technology integration and cooperation agreement. As part of the agreement, Ex Libris shall assist Net Snippets to introduce its products to the large Ex Libris customer base, which consists of more than one thousand academic, public, corporate, and consortium libraries worldwide.
Net Snippets will be integrated initially with the ALEPH 500™ library automation and management system; the MetaLib portal for information resource discovery and access in hybrid environments; and the SFX context-sensitive reference linking solution. Together, Net Snippets and these Ex Libris products provide a comprehensive solution for personal and collaborative information management. Now on-line researchers who want to save metadata records can drag them directly into the Net Snippets personal information management application, right in their browser. The records saved in Net Snippets will maintain their underlying structure and will include non-visual components such as an OpenURL.
The newly introduced Net Snippets software enables on-line researchers to collect, save, and annotate different types of content from a variety of sources and organize it into one hierarchical filing system right in their browser. Using a simple drag-and-drop interface, a researcher can instantly transfer text, images, and entire files—such as PDF, Word, and multimedia files—into Net Snippets and save them along with the source information, the researcher's comments, and metadata information that the researcher records. Colleagues can easily share snippets of content and entire folders and effortlessly generate bibliographies in a variety of styles, such as MLA and APA.
"Integration with the easy-to-use yet sophisticated Net Snippets application further extends the technological services that we provide for our users," said Azriel Morag, the chairman of the board of Ex Libris. "I am confident that researchers will derive enormous benefit from this practical, time-saving application."
"Combining the powerful on-line research capabilities of Ex Libris with the groundbreaking information management tools delivered by Net Snippets represents a significant breakthrough in on-line research," commented Ms. Yael Elish, CEO and cofounder of Net Snippets. "Our collaboration with Ex Libris will provide libraries and their patrons with exceptional tools to effectively save and catalog the fruits of their on-line research," she added.
