Abstract: Dynix announced that Eau Claire Area School District (Eau Claire, WI) and Shiawassee Regional Education Service District (Corunna, MI) have signed contracts to migrate to the Horizon Information Management System.

PROVO, Utah — April 29, 2003 — Dynix, the world's leading provider of automation technologies, solutions, and services for libraries, announced today that Eau Claire Area School District (Eau Claire, WI) and Shiawassee Regional Education Service District (Corunna, MI) have signed contracts to migrate to the Horizon Information Management System.

“We're excited that libraries in the school market are recognizing the value the Horizon system has to offer,” said Jack Blount, Dynix CEO. “We are proud of the Horizon School Library Suite and very confident in the information management solution it provides to school libraries.”

With 19 schools, the Eau Claire Area School District serves approximately 11,000 K-12 students with a collection of nearly 400,000 holdings. “Our technology department advocated for the adoption of a Windows-based solution because that's what they're used to working with for other projects,” said Linda Stelter, library media coordinator. “We researched other vendor offerings, but Horizon was the only Windows-based solution with the features we needed to accommodate a district of our size.”

Shiawassee Regional Education Service District has 24 school libraries using ILS systems and is hoping to bring seven more into the fold over the coming months. “We were looking to take a more holistic approach by adopting an ‘information management system' versus an electronic card catalog,” said Dave Schulte, assistant superintendent at Shiawassee. “We narrowed our search down to two finalists, and in the end, Horizon's flexibility and technical design gave it the edge. It's also cost-competitive, and for the new libraries that we'll be adding, that's very important.”
