Abstract: Dynix announced that Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC has chosen to continue its long-standing relationship with Dynix by replacing its current Dynix ILS system with the Horizon Information Management System.

PROVO, Utah — April 29, 2003 — Dynix, the world's leading provider of automation technologies, solutions and services for libraries, announced today that Central Piedmont Community College (Charlotte, NC) has chosen to continue its long-standing relationship with Dynix by replacing its current Dynix ILS system with the Horizon Information Management System.

Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) is the largest community college in the state of North Carolina and faces specific challenges unique to the academic environment. “As an academic library, it's critical that we have the ability not only to point our students in the right direction by telling them where items are located, but whenever possible link directly to full-texts of our electronic resources. Horizon will make a big difference in how we deliver on that goal,” said David Goble, associate dean for library services at CPCC.

A Dynix customer for the past decade, CPCC has six campuses and 105,713 books, serials, and other paper-based materials. Annual student enrollment totals approximately 70,000. In addition to Horizon's core functionality, CPCC will implement Horizon's Acquisitions, Serials, Inventory, Media Scheduling, ReportSmith, and Easy Ask modules.

"We're really excited about the new system,” Goble said. “The old Dynix ILS has served us well, but we were in the dark ages with that, and it was time to make the switch to a Web-based system. We're looking forward to moving into the 21st century with Horizon.”

While only 18 percent of Dynix ILS customers are academic libraries, college and university libraries comprise more than 33 percent of all current Horizon customers. “The robustness of the Horizon academic suite makes it a very attractive, comprehensive solution for academic libraries,” said Dynix CEO Jack Blount. “It is truly the most scalable solution available, which is an important consideration when serving large academic communities. Additionally, we've made significant advancements in recent months, including the addition of the Horizon Authority Loader and the development of key technology partnerships that bolster Horizon's position at the forefront of innovation.”
