Emeryville, CA. Innovative Interfaces, the leading supplier of Web-based library automation systems, announced that Hope College in Holland, Michigan has chosen to install the Millennium library automation system. They will be converting from a Sirsi Classic system.
"Our library's staff is constantly seeking ways to improve service and replacing our fifteen-year-old ILS with a new fourth-generation information system was a high priority," said David Jensen, Director of Libraries at Hope College. "We chose Millennium for its superior functionality and Innovative's excellent reputation among academic libraries. We look forward to the installation of the system so that we can begin benefiting from its excellent features."
Hope College is a four-year, liberal arts college founded by Dutch settlers and chartered in 1866. Hope has strong programs in many areas and a distinguished curriculum in the natural sciences. The college was recently ranked fourth in the nation in undergraduate research (US News & World Report, 23 September 2002, 104). The library supports this research with an active program of service as well as extensive print and electronic collections. Hope's library staff also conducts a model information literacy program that begins with the First Year Seminar and provides undergraduate students with course specific instruction throughout their four years.
Hope College's Systems Librarian, Brian Yost pointed out other factors that influenced the library's decision. Yost noted, "I was very impressed with the clean and intuitive design of the Millennium Java client interfaces. Although Millennium is still a growing system, the Innovative product as a whole is mature and has the functionality we require. Innovative also is developing exciting new products, such as the Serials E-Checkin module. To me this demonstrates that Innovative understands the new challenges facing libraries and is developing software to help us manage information in all formats."
