Emeryville, CA—Innovative Interfaces, the leading supplier of Web-based library automation systems, announced that the Universidade de Beira Interior in Covilhã, Portugal, has elected to install Millennium, replacing their existing local system. Univerisdade de Beira Interior will join a growing community of ten other Innovative libraries in Portugal.
"We expect Millennium's quality and functionality will continue to evolve and respond accordingly to our users' information needs. Millennium will help the staff of our two libraries better manage our information resources and enable them to become better library professionals. In turn, our users will benefit from better services and more efficient access to library materials," said Joana Dias, Director of the Universidade de Beira Interior Libraries.
The Universidade de Beira Interior is one of the newest universities in Portugal. It has approximately 5,500 students, 430 professors, and 225 staff members. The university has two libraries including the main library and a departmental library. On January 23, 2002, the main library was moved to a new building that, at 6,000 square meters, is now one of the biggest university libraries in Portugal. This library, while dedicated to education and research, is also open to the whole community. The library has a collection of approximately 80,000 volumes and has 5,000 registered patrons.
"By providing advanced search capabilities, streamlined workflows for staff, and a comprehensive digital library management solution, Millennium will help the Universidade de Beira establish itself as one of the foremost academic institutions in Portugal," noted Maryvonne Enjolras, Innovative's Iberian Library Consultant.
