Abstract: Endeavor Information Systems announced that it is working with Kansas State University to develop a premium content gateway between the Virage, Inc. rich media software for managing video and related media assets and Endeavor''s ENCompass digital system for managing, searching and linking collections.

DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS, Jan. 24, 2003: Endeavor Information Systems today announced that it is working with Kansas State University (K-State), located in Manhattan, KS to develop a premium content gateway between the Virage, Inc. rich media software for managing video and related media assets and Endeavor's ENCompass digital system for managing, searching and linking collections.

This new development enables library users to Search Without Limits and incorporate non-traditional media items in a simultaneous search of the library's print and digital resources. The project allows ENCompass to search the metadata of video collections encoded, indexed and stored by the Virage software, enabling users, such as the K-State staff and students, to search videos down to the frame level to discover audio, closed captioning or text matching the original search term.

"We are very excited about this gateway between ENCompass and Virage so that we can bring together all of our multi-formatted media that is of value to researchers," said David Allen, Chair of the Digital Library Department for the K-State Library. An ENCompass development partner with Endeavor, the K-State Library hold diverse multimedia collections including the campus' Landon Lecture Series, instructional media from the K-State veterinary medical school and public service media provided by the Cooperative Extension Service. "ENCompass presents a discovery-level capability for this content so even people that don't know about our extension publications website will be able to find this content through ENCompass in our Digital Library." "As libraries partner with different groups on campus they need to provide access to rich media held in a variety of applications," said Marianne Parkhill, Endeavor Director of Product Management. "ENCompass provides the end-to-end digital framework needed to aggregate, manage, and search this content with other library content.
