The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California, has become the latest customer to benefit from the Ex Libris-hosted SFX linking service. Scripps will benefit from the full power of the SFX server, including integration in its local environment without the need to locally host and manage this server.
SFX, the original OpenURL-based link server has set the standard for local link servers, delivering powerful linking services in the scholarly information environment. With SFX, libraries can define rules that allow SFX to dynamically create links that fully integrate their information resources. The user is presented with context-sensitive links that are dynamically configured on the basis of the institution`s e-collections.
According to Paula King, library director at Scripps, “ SFX will give our users ‘just-in-time’ and seamless access to the resources and services they require, while facilitating link management for the library staff. After a comprehensive trial of the Ex Libris-hosted service we are confident that this will meet the needs of the Scripps researchers.”
Jenny Walker, Director of Sales and Marketing for the Ex Libris Information Services Division comments: "We are very pleased to add the prestigious Scripps Research Institute to our growing list of customers around the world. Scripps has chosen to take advantage of the Ex Libris-hosted SFX service whereby hosting for the SFX server and management thereof is managed by Ex Libris, enabling Scripps to concentrate on defining the services they will offer to their end users.”
