Minneapolis, MN. - December 19, 2002 - Sagebrush Corporation, a leading solutions provider for the K-12 library market, today announced that BenchMARC(tm), its' exclusive collection development service, has been enhanced to include exciting new features. Among the new features added are collection development documents, new reports, and a new call number grouping.
"We will continue to enhance the quality of the product to create the most effective collection development tool for our users," said Gail Mazure, BenchMARC Product Manager. "We listened to customer requests in determining which new features to include in this release. BenchMARC already was a powerful, innovative tool for analyzing collections. The new features further expand BenchMARC's functionality, giving users even more valuable and useful information about their collection."
BenchMARC features easy-to-use analysis and reporting tools that assist school librarians with collection development efforts and funding requests. Two helpful new reports join the five reports already included with BenchMARC. The Collection Age Summary report provides a snapshot of a library's entire collection, giving users a better understanding of their collection at-a-glance. The Historical Collection Age report offers information that helps prove to administrators how time can make a collection less valuable. Also, users can now choose to show report information using high level grouping, which divides reports into four main call number categories: non-fiction, fiction, easy, and other.
In addition to the new report features, BenchMARC has also added new collection development documents. Helpful templates guide users in creating useful collection analysis documents specific to their library. Users can customize and print these documents to support their case when ordering new materials or when seeking library funding from administrators.
Libraries can currently sign-up for a free 12-month BenchMARC subscription. For more information about BenchMARC or other Sagebrush products and services, visit www.benchmarcyourlibrary.com or call Sagebrush at 1-800-533-5430.
BenchMARC is a Web-based subscription service that simplifies collection development, facilitating quick identification of aged and inaccurate titles and providing recommendations for new materials. Using BenchMARC, collections are compared to an unbiased standard based on award-winning libraries chosen from Blue Ribbon schools. Users receive seven reports (Call Number Summary, Detailed Call Number, Collection Age, Suggested Items, Historical Comparison, and two new reports, Collection Age Summary and Historical Collection Age) that highlight areas of collections that are strong and areas that require weeding or development. BenchMARC users also >have access to library experts to assist with collection development and the Grant Clearinghouse to help find funding.
