DES PLAINES, Ill., Dec. 6, 2002 Endeavor Information Systems today announced the University of Kansas Digital Library, Lawrence, KS, is the first to search the resources of BioOne, the Web-based aggregation of research journals published by non-profit scholarly societies in the biological, ecological and environmental sciences, via ENCompass, the digital management, organization and linking tool. The availability of searching BioOne in ENCompass enables researchers to access BioOne resources simultaneously with the breadth of other electronic and print resources of the library.
"The University of Kansas aims to be a leader in scholarly communication and to change the way people think about accessing information resources and collections," said Beth Forrest Warner, director of the KU Digital Library Initiatives. "Our founding partnership in the development of BioOne™ has been a way of continuing to shape the kind of resources to which we provide access. ENCompass is a platform that will help us provide effective, efficient access to scholarly research materials through systems that federate distributed information resources both on and off campus."
"Endeavor continues to enhance ENCompass with important developments like the BioOne connector to expand access to information," said Jane Burke, Endeavor President and CEO of Endeavor. "We are very proud to partner with the University of Kansas Digital Library Initiatives in testing the BioOne™ and ENCompass integration. Providing clear methods for resource discovery, ENCompass enables searching without limits because of the integration of so many vital resources like BioOne in a simultaneous search."
BioOne is a Web-based aggregation of research in the biological, ecological and environmental sciences.
