Other InformationThis Request for Proposals (RFP) solicits proposals from qualified vendors to provide services necessary to migrate the current circulation system for the library at the Department to a new Integrated Library System (ILS). The Department is seeking bids for an integrated library system (ILS) for its library for the blind and physically handicapped. The new system must be able to search for materials, manage production, check in and out library materials, collect data from transactions, and share this data with groups such as the Department of Education, the National Library Service (NLS), and PIMMS (patron information and machine maintenance system). The Department’s library now uses several systems: a production tracking system for the production tracking of materials, a Consortium of User Libraries (CUL) system for circulation, an online public access catalog that synchronizes with CUL daily, and a system in Visual Basic for distributing magazines. These systems are not fully accessible for persons who use assistive technologies. As it is a national leader in providing extensive library services for blind and visually impaired persons or persons who are print disabled, libraries look to the Department’s library to propose solutions and chart new paths forward. The Department desires a completed, functioning replacement solution to existing library systems by January 1, 2016; however, an earlier implementation is desirable.
