LibraryHQ's SiteSource, the quality database of cataloged Web sites selected by professional catalogers and subject specialists, has just reached the 50,000-site mark. "We're excited about reaching this milestone," said Jim Veatch, SiteSource developer, "and we expect to continue increasing the collection at the rate of about 1000 sites each month."
Web sites are carefully selected for the SiteSource database according to specific criteria, and must meet high standards for both content and presentation. The database contains a wide variety of educational and useful materials for users of all ages. New site records are accessible immediately, and sites are checked on a regular basis to eliminate outdated information and dead links. Last year SiteSource was selected for incorporation into Sirsi Corporation's iBistro Electronic Library, thus providing cataloged web site resources to Sirsi's library customers. SiteSource is also sold separately to individuals and to libraries and schools that do not use Sirsi's library system products.
