San Antonio, Texas, January 14, 2000. MARCIVE, Inc., is pleased to announce that an agreement has been signed with Syndetic Solutions for the provision of cataloging enrichment data.
Added to libraries' MARC records, these optional data elements greatly improve keyword access as well as provide a wealth of descriptive information about each book. It is intended that the data be made available through a new MARCIVE service for database and ongoing cataloging enrichment, as well as in conjunction with the company's existing services. Current batch services include authorities processing of backfiles, Overnight Authorities (processing of daily cataloging), retrospective conversion from shelflists, and Brief Record Upgrade (machine conversion of brief computer records to full MARC format). A database of cataloging records is also available through MarciveWeb SELECT for the production of MARC records, catalog cards, spine label sets, smart barcode labels, and matching authorities. Priorities for the inclusion of MARC enrichment data in each of these services will be determined by library demand.
Data available from Syndetic Solutions include tables of contents (TOC), as well as fiction and biography data containing a variety of access points including topics, sub-genre, settings, time periods, awards, series/sequel information, main characters, and the characters' attributes.
