MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – April 3, 2001 – Sagebrush Corporation, a leading solutions provider for the library and education markets, announced the Athena Cross-Reference Database, a new Athena add-on product designed to help patrons find materials more effectively. With cross-references, patrons can retrieve relevant search results even when they have entered a misspelled or uncommon search term.
Athena Cross-Reference Database provides powerful see and see-also reference headings for libraries. These headings are used when there are alternative words used to describe the same concept (automobile/car/auto). Without cross references, one search ("car") may not retrieve all of the associated records (those with "automobile"). Athena has the capability to provide a see and see-also reference that automatically searches for associated terms. The Athena Cross-Reference Database contains over 10,000 MARC authority records that can be used as a generic See and See Also Collection within Athena. These records can be loaded as a complete collection, or imported into an existing collection.
According to Karen Henrickson, General Manager of Sagebrush's Technology division, "The Athena Cross-Reference Database will help students get the most from their libraries. This product helps students find what they need even if they misspell words, or if there are multiple terms that might be appropriate. And we've designed the Athena Cross-Reference Database to be easy for media specialists and staff to use too, as the records can be saved as an import file or loaded as a pre-built collection."
The Athena Cross-Reference Database is priced at $495, and is designed to work seamlessly with Athena. For more information call Sagebrush Corporation at 1-800-533-5430.
