February 19, 2001 – SiteSource, the database of quality cataloged Web sites, is now available by subscription to both individuals and institutions, according to LibraryHQ, the supplier of the Web collection. A one-month free trial offer enables potential subscribers to fully explore SiteSource, which currently contains more than 27,000 MARC records with hotlinks to the actual Web sites. Additional sites are being selected and cataloged at a rate of more than 1000 per month.
Web sites are selected for SiteSource according to specific criteria by professional catalogers and subject specialists, and the database contains a wide variety of subject areas for users of all ages. Jim Veatch, SiteSource developer, explains, "SiteSource includes the useful, solid sites that meet our high informational, graphic, and textual standards. Library users, professionals, researchers, traditional students, homeschoolers, anyone with a need for information, can now reach the most helpful Web sites faster than ever before and without the clutter offered by typical search engines and directories."
