HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Jan. 12, 2001) -- Sirsi Corporation, the leader in library technology, and Cahners Business Information, the leading provider of information to the library world, have announced a cooperative agreement whereby library users can have fast, easy access to Cahners' collection of book reviews from Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, and School Library Journal through SIRSI's new iBistro e-Library.
The agreement between SIRSI and Cahners will provide library users with more information on books than ever available before from a single online location. From their homes or offices, users can visit their library's iBistro e-Library to find books of interest in their library's or other libraries' catalogs. When users find the book they want, they not only have traditional title, author, and call number details, but also direct onscreen access to Cahners' ever-expanding collection of professionally written book reviews-now consisting of reviews for nearly 200,000 books.
SIRSI's iBistro e-Library is designed to help libraries better serve the needs of today's online information seekers. Using iBistro, library users can search a library's catalog, visit other libraries online, peruse highest-quality Web sites, read book reviews, summaries, and other book information, and purchase books currently unavailable in the library, all from a single, simple interface. Users can also personalize iBistro to create a "MyBistro" resource, where they receive information about new titles of interest just to them.
"We are pleased to participate in this alliance with SIRSI to broaden access to our extensive collection of reviews," said Rachel Dicker, Cahners publishing director of Business Development. "In our new relationship with SIRSI, Cahners continues its dedication to providing information users with what they need in the forms they prefer."
"Combining reviews from Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, and School Library Journal for past and current titles with SIRSI's forward-looking iBistro truly offers to libraries and their users tomorrow's library technology today," said Greg Hathorn, SIRSI's vice president. "This alliance benefits libraries by enabling them to offer their users these enriching reviews without adding to staff workload-new reviews are automatically added monthly."
