Blacksburg, Virginia, U.S.A.. L'Universite catholique de Louvain (UCL) in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, went live with a version of Virtua' s OPAC, Cataloging and Authority Control, and Web Gateway May 15, 1998. UCL is the first customer to install Virtua in a live environment. The production testing for the second phase of their installation has already begun and will include the implementation of Circulation.
"We have worked cooperatively with the VTLS staff and I believe both institutions feel that this installation is a major step forward to Virtua's success," stated David Phillips, Secretary of the Library Steering Committee, for UCL.
VTLS Inc. experts migrated UCL's databases from three systems: DOBIS, Star and ISIS. Virtua is running on a Sun UltraSparc platform running under Solaris (UNIX) and the Oracle Relational Database Management System with a 128-user level license.
