Follett Software Company introduces new version of its on-line public access catalog under Unison design

McHenry, ILLINOIS -- January 16, 1995 -- Follett Software Company announces its plans to release a new version of its flagship on-line public access catalog searching software, Catalog Plus. The new version of Catalog Plus will operate under Follett's new Unison platform, a software design that allows for its products to be completely modular as well as integrate with other products as they are installed.

Catalog Plus in its original form required the installation of Follett's library circulation management software, Circulation Plus, while Catalog Plus in Unison can be installed as a stand-alone module, allowing institutions just beginning to automate their libraries to benefit immediately from an automated catalog system. It will also share a common database with other products operating under the Unison design, including new versions of Circulation Plus; Textbook PlusFollett's textbook distribution management software; and MacSearch Plus Station, Follett's Macintosh catalog searching software.

Catalog Plus in Unison features many enhanced capabilities over its original version, including cross references; on-line help screens; seamless interface with Alliance Plus, Follett's CD-ROM database; an enhanced MARC editor; the ability to define brief records; and an unlimited collection size. A searchable events calendar; the ability to import and export in USMARC format; the ability to create a duplicate title from an existing record; support of LC classification; and label printing are further enhancements found within Catalog Plus in Unison. Like its original version, Catalog Plus in Unison provides full support for Novell NetWare and Artisoft LANtastic network operating systems, as well as single user environments.
