SIRS NetSelect, a new online guide to quality internet resources, to premiere at ALA

Boca Raton, FL, June 26, 2000 - SIRS NetSelect, a unique new guide to some of the Internet's best resources, will be available to preview during the American Library Association's Summer Conference in July, according to educational publisher SIRS Mandarin, Inc.

SIRS NetSelect will be fully integrated into the SIRS Knowledge Source (TM) online interface after its ALA premier. Users will be able to access both quality Internet resources and full-text articles on almost any subject from a single search environment.

Each Internet resource is carefully selected utilizing SIRS' time-tested techniques for evaluating and organizing information. Sites originate from around the globe, including those of leading universities, educational institutions, government agencies and respected organizations. An editorial team including editors with advanced degrees in Library Science, History and English evaluates sites for credibility, reliability and relevance to the needs of researchers. Content that is overly commercialized, poorly documented or inappropriately focused is excluded from consideration. Librarians and educators can feel confident that SIRS uses its best efforts to provide users with responsible sites.

SIRS NetSelect is continually updated to include new sites and dynamically changing data, enabling researchers to bypass broken links and access the latest information. Web sites are assigned topics based upon their content and mission. Topics are derived from those of SIRS Mandarin's award-winning reference databases - SIRS Researcher, SIRS Government Reporter, SIRS Renaissance and SIRS Discoverer - which are widely recognized as a taxonomy for the study of social issues, sciences and the arts and humanities.

With SIRS NetSelect, users can retrieve web sites using keyword search or topic browse. Every web site on SIRS NetSelect is accompanied by a summary, which provides a concise overview of site content and authority.
