Press Release: Innovative Interfaces, Inc. [March 20, 2000]

Portugal's most prestigious technical University to install the Millennium Library Automation System

March 20, 2000. The Universidade Técnica de Lisboa has chosen Millennium from Innovative Interfaces as the replacement library automation system for all of its libraries. The University is one of the largest in Portugal and comprises seven technical institutes, who will be migrating from CDS/ISIS and LIBERTAS systems. The two LIBERTAS libraries, Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão and Instituto Superior Técnico, have been customers of SLS Information Systems, now the European Division of Innovative, since 1995 and 1993 respectively.

The University's seven libraries will be linked together and share resources from one Millennium system, which will be located at the University Chancellor's offices. Each institute will benefit from the latest Millennium Web-based features, including Web OPAC, Circulation, Serials Control, Acquisitons, Materials Booking and Inter-Library Loan. The system will be licensed for 70 staff users and unlimited OPAC users, and will run Millennium on a Compaq Alpha.

Professor Antonio Romão, the Vice-Rector at UTL, said, "After a detailed review of the systems available, we chose Millennium from Innovative because of its high functionality in comparison with other systems, and its modern architecture. It was also important for each of the institutions to keep their autonomy, and Millennium allows this. The quality of service and support provided by Innovative to its customers, both locally in Lisbon and from the headquarters in California, also greatly encouraged us."

Maryvonne Enjolras, Innovative's Iberian Library Consultant, commented, "Millennium's unique combination of mature functionality and modern technology will ensure the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa remains at the forefront of the Portuguese educational sector. We are also pleased to be reinforcing our customer base in Portugal."

The Universidade Técnica de Lisboa was created in 1930 and comprises faculties of Veterinary Medicine, Agricultural Sciences, Economics and Business Administration, Engineering, Social and Political Sciences, Architecture and Human Kinetics. UTL has 1,900 teaching staff and 20,000 students, most of whom are undergraduates. The faculties are currently located in different parts of Lisbon, although most of them will move in the near future to the new University Campus, where the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine is already installed.
