March 4, 1999. Malmö Schools/The Pedagogical Center have signed a contract with SLS (Information Systems) Scandinavia AB (now part of Innovative Interfaces) to upgrade their LIBERTAS library management system to Innovative's Millennium library automation system. This means that in the past few months academic, public and school libraries in Sweden have all chosen the LIBERTAS-to-Millennium upgrade path.

Malmö has around 80 schools at primary and secondary level, including adult education. Of these, around 35 will be connected to the library system, "SELMA". When the system is fully implemented, around 15-20,000 pupils and teachers will be able to search the database for media at their own school library and at The Pedagogical Center and then obtain the books on loan. Many more will have access to the information via the Web OPAC. The catalogue will not only contain books, but also movies, CD-ROM and other AV-media.

Malmö Schools cooperate cloesly with the Malmö City Library, which also recently selected Millennium. Pål Svensson, Director of the Pedagogical Center said: "It is a strength for Malmö that we cooperate with the public library and have a shared vision about the future also in the library field. By upgrading to Millennium we make it possible for pupils in all grades from primary school and upwards to use the same library system, the one that they will encounter when they visit the public libraries in Malmö.
