Newman and Westhill Colleges in Birmingham achieved a record rate of input when creating their bibliographic database for the new Talis library system recently installed by BLCMP Library Services Ltd. The rate of 41 Items per hour was made possible by the use of the BLCMP Database, against which over 90% of the Colleges' stock found a match enabling MARC records to be downloaded to create the new local catalogue.
Circulation control and on-line public access were implemented on 28 September, just at the start of term, and the library staff added borrower details for the 2500 students and staff in the first few days.
The installation of Tails was also the first experience of automation for Newman and Westhill, and the libraries have taken the opportunity to redesign their counters, providing a modern, streamlined service to readers.
