Huntsville, Alabama - SIRSI Corporation announced today the release of the Internet Navigator to provide Unicorn/STILAS users with easy and transparent access to information servers and library catalogs available through the Internet.

The SIRSI Internet Navigator maintains a list of over 600 academic and research databases and catalogs available through Internet. The list is organized by country, state, and site and can be easily modified and enhanced by administrators. The Internet Navigator presents this list to the user as a menu from which the user may select.

Once a site is selected, the Internet Navigator automatically and transparently connects and logs the user in to the chosen site. It is not necessary for the user to remember logins or passwords, for these are supplied by the Navigator. Once logged in, the user searches using the command language of the target database. When the user terminates the session, the Internet Navigator smoothly returns the user to the Navigator menu.

The Internet Navigator is one of a number of Sirsi products designed to provide library patrons with transparent, automatic access to other databases. Other products include Sirsi's Intelligent Interfaces and Reference Database Managers, which allow Sirsi users to search a variety of databases using SIRSI commands, eliminating the need for the user to learn the search protocols of other databases.
