Press Release: SIRSI Corporation [March 29, 1996]

Unicorn installed at Brooks School

Huntsville, AL (March 29, 1996) - Sirsi Corporation announced today that UNICORN has been installed at Brooks School's Henry Luce III library, based in North Andover, Massachusetts.

SIRSI's Unicorn Collection Management System, using client/server technology, simplifies and improves the process of managing and accessing library holdings. Its UNIX base allows the flexibility of choosing different platforms, all of which operate with the same software. Its modular design enables users to build on the system's core Z39.50-compliant catalog, choosing and configuring additional modules according to local library needs.

UNICORN is installed on an IBM RISC System/6000 Model 250 host computer. The library has selected SIRSI's InfoVIEW graphical client with Z39.50 for Windows. In addition to providing a consistent graphical interface to all staff and patron modules licensed by the library, InfoVIEW also provides URL hyperlinks from within the UNICORN catalog to multi-media resources.

"We selected SIRSI's UNICORN because it is a UNIX-based system with fully integrated modules," said Gunta Vittands, Librarian. "It offers excellent functionality, including a fully-developed graphical user interface."

The Brooks School, founded in 1926, is a coeducational, college preparatory school which enrolls approximately 340 students, mostly boarders, in grades nine through twelve. The Henry Luce III Library was dedicated in March 1995 and contains over 25,000 volumes, subscribes to 152 periodicals, and seats 145 users. The library is part of an emerging campus network which includes direct access to the Internet, and UNICORN will be available on the campus network.
