Huntsville, Alabama - SIRSI Corporation is pleased to announce the release of an INTELLIGENT INTERFACE to provide UNICORN and STILAS users with automatic, intelligent online access to Z39.50 servers.

Through this interface, available as a component of SIRSI's RETRIEVAL INTERFACE MANAGER, users can access any Z39.50 compliant server using SIRSI commands. Major advantages of the Intelligent Z39.50 Interface include:

• fully integrated component of SIRSI Unicorn/STILAS OPAC
• fully integrated component of SIRSI Unicorn/STILAS Enhanced Researchers Access (ERA: allows parallel searching; saving of search results and strategies; downloading to Unicorn/STILAS)
• the Unicorn/STILAS user does not have to learn a separate command language
• uses SIRSI command language
• the full-text and hypertext searching capabilities of the SIRSI Online Public Access Catalog are available to the user, whether the target Z39.50 server supports them or not
• automatic connection to other servers
• user does not have to navigate telecommunications protocols

The SIRSI INTELLIGENT INTERFACE to Z39.50 servers is an addition to SIRSI's family of INTELLIGENT INTERFACES. Systems to which SIRSI has developed an intelligent interface are BRS, DIALOG, DRA, DTIC, NASA/RECON, NOTIS, OCLC EPIC, PALS and other UNICORN/STILAS sites. SIRSI INTELLIGENT INTERFACES connect the user automatically to diverse databases and permit the user to search the remote databases with SIRSI commands.
