Strategic Fit and Market Growth

ISI has acquired Niles Software based on its history of bringing innovative products to market, its customer-oriented organization, and the strategic fit of EndNote with ISI's existing database and bibliographic management software products. ISI has a large and diverse customer base for which the suite of bibliographic management products offer valuable support. "We are excited about bringing Niles Software and EndNote into ISI," said Leslie Singer, President and Chief Operating Officer of ISI. "With its strong reputation for product innovation, large customer base, and compatibility with other leading database providers, EndNote adds to our existing strength in bibliographic software and will play an important role in our future development plans."

In recent years, the bibliographic software market has experienced unprecedented growth with over 300,000 researchers, students and librarians worldwide now using EndNote, ProCite, or Reference Manager. This acquisition brings together these products and the skilled people behind them in an organization dedicated to their continued support and development. "Going forward, ISI plans to rely on this new team to create new and innovative information products for the research community. Bibliographic management software will become an invaluable tool for accessing critical information over the Internet," added Singer.

Customer Benefits and Product Plans

"Both Niles Software and RIS have been vibrant and highly successful businesses and we believe our customers will benefit from the formation of this new organization," said Richard K. Niles, President of ISI ResearchSoft. "By bringing our products and talented staffs together we will be able to offer cross-product compatibility and introduce new developments more quickly for all of our customers," added Niles.

"ISI ResearchSoft will actively support all of our products. Since bringing ProCite into our organization in 1996, we have released successful upgrades of ProCite and Reference Manager, and we introduced Reference Web PosterTM. We intend to maintain the same level of commitment to EndNote and will continue to respond to the needs of all our customers," said David Kochalko, Chief Operating Officer of ISI ResearchSoft.
